Planning a party and stuck looking for a theme? Sports (for some teens) is a simple and easy pick. Many party hosts use a sports themed party since it’s simple. Others use sports inspired celebrations since it perfectly matches their son or daughter’s personality. The big question that we at Xplosive Entertainment get asked all the time is, “how can I do a sports themed party, but keep it trendy, cool, fun, and unique?”
There are so many different angles to look at. From themed decoration, to extra entertainment, to unique introductions, to interesting ways to incorporate multi-media and finally finding unique venues can help build your event’s character.
We will explore each of these topics briefly in this blog.
Decorations: (see photo gallery below) Sports decor can be kept classy and trendy if you want, or they can be playful and juvenile.
Extra Entertainment: At Xplosive Entertainment, we refer to Extra Entertainment or “EE” as, “Event Enhancements.” Items that fall within an EE category are photo booths / photo stations, games, activities, unique talents, etc. For a sports themed party, an old standard would be a green screen photo station where guest’s photos are super imposed at their favorite stadium or with their favorite player. But if you are looking for something more contemporary, how about an LED illuminated basketball hoop game (rather than the old cheesy pop-a-shot). Can you imagine the WOW factor to having a “Slap Shot Hockey Cage” where guests have an opportunity to shoot pucks against a real live goalie?
Multi-Media has become easier and easier lately to incorporate into events. Many venues now have installed video screens. If not, most reputable DJ or entertainment companies can bring HD flat panel TVs to events. On these screens, typically, you would have the chance to see photo montages, candid zap shot photos, and your son or daughter’s logo. Each of these previously mentioned items can have a sports twist to it. But, imagine having highlights from the NY Knicks playing on the TVs as guests enter the Knicks themed party. Or what if you had a video reel of your child’s best personal moments in sports to showcase?
Lastly… in thinking about a Sports themed party, think about finding a fun venue. Xplosive Entertainment has proudly hosted bar/bat mitzvahs at Philadelphia’s Citizen Bank Ball Park, The New York Giant’s home field, MetLife Stadium, Yankee Stadium, and the Yogi Berra Museum located in Little Falls/Montclair, NJ. If this arena type setup doesn’t work for you, what about an upscale fitness club like the Atlantic Club in Manasquan or the Newtown Athletic Club in Bucks County, PA. Certainly, though, you do not need to feel obligated to use a unique venue. From the gallery of photos below, you can see that some of our most fun soccer, baseball, basketball and football themed parties happened at common venues like country clubs, temples, and catering halls.
